Welcome to The Department of Visual Arts
Our mission is to foster the development of Visual Literacy for all students. This can be defined simply as communication via imagery, symbolism, text, and other visual elements. Keep in mind, communication is a two way street. In Plano ISD, we scaffold our students throughout our K-12 program with a curriculum that develops skills to effectively read, interpret, evaluate, use, and ultimately create visual media as a valid form of communication in the 21st Century.
The art world extends beyond the traditional gallery or museum. It envelops every part of our lives from the apps we use and cars we drive to the design of our homes and everything inside of them. It is in this understanding that we provide an art education that prepares our students with the visual literacy skills to be the artists, designers and thinkers of today and tomorrow.
