Speech in Plano

Texas students must successfully complete one semester of speech to fulfill graduation requirements. The speech curriculum in Plano ISD provides opportunities for students to enhance their communication skills through a variety of course offerings.

Two National Champions in Speech and Debate
Plano West Senior High School students Uzair Alpial received 1st place, Foreign Extemporaneous speaking, and Jackie Wei received 1st place in United States Extemporaneous Speaking at the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament in June, 2018.
National Speech and Debate Four Diamond Award
Plano Senior High School was awarded the Debate School of Excellence and speech coach, Cheryl Potts was recognized as a Four Diamond Award for her years of service, excellence and longevity in the activity of speech and debate by the National Speech and Debate Association.
NSDA Qualifiers Board Recognition
The Plano ISD School Board recognized some of the National Speech and Debate Association Tournament qualifiers at their June 2018 session. Each campus was recognized for their outstanding contributions.
